Corrine's Proposal

On February 13, 2011, Cori proposed… she beat me to it! The proposal was flawless. It was everything I could hope for. On that Sunday morning, Cor took me to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT as an early Valentine’s Day treat. She also invited her sister and her sister’s boyfriend, which was great!

Cor was neurotic all day. She kept having her sister take pictures of us and she was acting a bit out of character, but I chalked it up to her just having an off day. Prior to leaving the aquarium, we walked outside to see the penguin exhibit. We were excited because the penguins were suppose to leave in December, but their original home could not accommodate them, allowing Maritime to keep the penguins longer. It seemed like fate.

Quick History: Ever since I’ve known Corrine (we’ve been friends for 6 years and dating for 3 years), we’ve always refer to each other as penguins. The term seemed fitting because we always new we were soulmates and penguins are one of the rare species that mate for life. I am her penguin and she is mine.

Back to the proposal… Cor, in all her nervous glory, whispered in my ear “I need to tell you something.” I looked at her, completely oblivious, and waited for her to continue. Cor locked eyes with mine, took a deep breath for luck, and began to sing 6 Months by Hey Monday. I adore her voice and the fact that she changed the some of the lyrics to reflect us:

Three years going strong now, and no goodbye
Unconditional, unoriginal, always by my side
Meant to be together
Meant for no one but each other
You love me, I love you harder so

Everything you say, every time we kiss
I can’t think straight but I’m okay
And I can’t think of anybody else
Who I hate to miss as much as I hate missing you

So please, give me a hint
So please, give me a lesson
On how to steal, steal a heart
As fast as you stole mine, as you stole mine

Oh and everything you say
Every time we kiss, I can’t think straight
But I’m okay and I can’t think of anybody else
Who I hate to miss as much as I hate missing you

So please, give me a hint
So please, just give me your hand

Penguin Proposal

When Cori sings, my world stops completely, and my soul begins to dance. As soon as she sang the newly changed line just give me your hand, I knew what was happening. I effortlessly gave her my hand and she slipped the sapphire and diamond ring onto my left ring finger, asking me “will you marry me?”

Of course, I said “yes.” Subsequently, I proceeded to lift myself off the ground to capture her lips with mine. Later that night, she cooked me a vegan 3-course meal (carrot soup, kale salad, tofu and veggie curry stir fry with rice noodles) and she baked me vegan cupcakes and vegan peanut butter cups! She is undeniably amazing.

Corrine admitted to me that she was feeling confident all day, but the moment she was about to proposed, she couldn’t help but feel faint-hearted.  Three years into our relationship and we still give each other butterflies.
