Adventure Awaits

The New Year is almost here!

The year 2013 has been incredible and we are ready to embark on 2014 in San Francisco!

Getting from the East Coast from the West Coast has been an adventure. I moved to San Franscico in August and Cori, as well as the pups, made their way across the states in October. The original plan was for me to fly back to New York and drive down with my family, but this pesky thing called "Grad School" got in the way. So, here was the new plan:

  • Cori and her sister, Natalie, drive to Chicago, with the pups, 1 day in total.
  • I fly to Chicago and Natalie flies back home.
  • Cori, the pups, and I drive to California from Chicago in a 4 days.

Road Trip!

It wasn't the epic road trip that we wanted, but we were determined to make the best of it and we had a blast! Cori, the pups, and her sister drove through Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois to get to Chicago. Once I came aboard, Cori, the pups, and I traveled through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada. Finally, within our 4 day time span, we made it to California! We literally drove through 2 states per day while making sure we stopped at dog parks so Gambit and Maddy could get a little exercise.

The only downside was our "experience" with our moving company. First, they took approximately 3 weeks to deliver our belongings, and then they damaged some of our bedroom furniture, as well as broke our flat screen TV. They also lacked in the communication department and were not easy to contact. Nevertheless, we refuse to let this bump in our journey drown us in misery. We are currently in the process of filing a claim and we are trying to focus on the positives. For instance, Cori kept saying that she wanted a bigger TV and now we have a 47 inch smart TV. Needless to say, Cori is a very happy camper! Hopefully, our claim will go through and we'll see some justice. I would also like to mention that we met some helpful professionals, including our AT&T cable guy who gave us some helpful tips about the Bay Area and our TV mounting guy from Mount Em Up who showed us some generosity upon learning about our shortcomings with the movers.

As of current, we are unpacked and incredibly happy! Cori is doing well in her career at her new Hospital and I survived my first semester of Graduate school. We are making amazing friends and the pups are happy to have daily beach trips. California feels like home and we cannot wait to see what 2014 has in store for us!

Sing Me Anything

Exactly one year ago from today we were married on a rooftop in NYC and now we are celebrating our one year anniversary in San Francisco! So much has happened in one year and we couldn't be happier!

Map of NY with a heart on NYC and our wedding song <3

Our first year of marriage definitely felt like a whirlwind. We came home from our honeymoon in Costa Rica, adopted a new puppy (Gambit), and began our plans to move to the West coast. In the mist of it all,  Stephanie was accepted into the Expressive Arts Therapy program at CIIS and Cori was hired for a travel nurse position at Stanford. It hasn't been an easy transition, but it is most certainty worth it!

We embarked on this new adventure with a tentative plan and we were so nervous that we were going to be celebrating our one-year wedding anniversary on opposite coasts. We are incredibly grateful and lucky to be spending our special day together. We didn't make any grand plans because we are still caught up in the moving process, but just being able to physically be with each other is grand enough for us.

After receiving Swedish and Thai massages, we went pumpkin picking and took the pups for a nice long walk hand-in-hand. We even found a local garden and had a succulent plant created for us and our new home. Tonight, we will be cooking dinner together and feasting on pumpkin treats while watching Halloween movies!

Life is all about the moments... the simple moments...

Making Lemonade

If life hands you lemons, then you make lemonade... right?

As many of you already know, I (Stephy) was accepted into The California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California!

As soon as I received my acceptance letter, time seemed to move quickly. I had to give my job at CCCI a 4 weeks notice for my termination on 8/23/13 and Cori and I had to find me a place to live between August 26 and November 1 of 2013.  Finding a temporary apartment was not an easy task, but I was fortunate to find a sublet in the heart of the Mission in San Francisco (close to my school) with two awesome roommates and an adorable kitty cat.

Cori and I will be separated for approximately 2 months (give or take) and living over 3000 miles away from each other.  This pretty much killed our initial plans, in which we were going to drive cross-country and see the sights from New York to California. Our plans needed rearranging due to my classes starting sooner then I anticipated. I flew out of JFK the morning of August 26th and landed in San Francisco at noon on the same day. Cori and the pups stayed behind., and while I engage in orientation and classes, Cori will finish packing and drive cross-country with the pups on October 4th of this year.  Movers were hired to drive our entire life across the country. This is all very terrifying and exciting.

Being temporarily separated from each other has been the most difficult part about this whole entire process. Technology advances such as Skype has made it easier, but it doesn’t compare to physically being with a person. Thankfully, Cori and my mom will be visiting me in California next week. We’ll be sightseeing and viewing 10 potential apartments in hopes of finding a place to call “our home” on the West Coast.

My Life <3

Now that Cori and I are feeling more settled, we will be updating this blog more frequently to update everyone on our crazy/awesome adventure. As of recent, Cori landed a new nursing position at Stanford Hospital and I will be able to fly to Chicago on October 4th to drive through Colorado and Nevada to California with Cori and the pups!

One thing is for certain… we had an amazing summer on the East Coast with our family and friends...
